Significance of EdTech
The Rise of EdTech Learning

London EdTech Week 2021 highlighted how much EdTech has grown and shaped UK education, especially since the advent of Covid. Covid-19 has changed the way we live, specifically the way we learn and has acted as a catalyst for the adoption of EdTech. The struggle for students having to study remotely, having lectures online, has caused opportunity for change, but is it here to stay?
Education Technology (EdTech) incorporates everything from the simple use of computers through to creating an active working environment. It’s not just about reformatting books, textbooks and training manuals, it is about applying digital technology to deliver a new form of learning architecture. This leads to a higher standard of learning, knowledge sharing and wider availability improving accessibility.
Why Is EdTech Significant?
Bring down costs
“Worldwide, the combined education and training industries account for spending of more than £4 trillion, representing a huge 84% increase since 2000” [1]
The challenge for world leaders and educators is that the rising demand for education cannot be satisfied with its current high cost. This is where EdTech plays a significant role, as it brings the adoption of policies such as Bring Your Own devices (BYOD) in schools, resulting in less money spent on hardware for schools – which currently makes up 60 percent of IT budgets. [2]
Democratisation of education
EdTech allows for wider accessibility and equalised standards which result in democratisation of education. The rapid growth of technology worldwide means that access to EdTech is achievable and reliable and this ensures that the delivery of education can be to the same standard for all.
The benefits of big data
EdTech offers a large amount of reliable data to be stored, whereby data analytics techniques in education can drive adaptive learning. Personalised learning programmes can be identified as well as knowledge gaps and the stored data of public can be carried from one learning establishment to another.
Improvement in user’s engagement and learning impact
EdTech offers the ability to integrate learning into multi-media, gamification, mobile casual and informal learning apps and peer-to-peer learning platforms are all making content increasingly immersive; designed to not only attract students but also keep them engaged.
EdTech has proved to be a valuable platform for learning from primary school to university. At Flourish PR we work with clients in the education sector as well as technology sector including EdTech providers. We have seen first-hand the impact of EdTech on student lives and how it can significantly boost learning and importantly access to resources and content, as well as support education providers as they navigate out of Covid.
